Don’t pull over a cop.

In the idiot’s defense, the cops were rolling in an unmarked Mustang, probably obtained through an asset seizure.

Someone doing shit like this is terrifying. I noticed this happened back in July , and tried to find any follow up stories , but could only find articles about the initial incident . Which may be a good thing, because of he had been doing something truly heinous with this car before he got caught it would be major news.

I worked with someone who used his volunteer firefighter blue lights to pull over a car he thought was weaving erratically. The driver wasn’t a cop, but let’s say the cops were not happy with his “assistance” . He lost his position with the fire company, and we fired him shortly after for another, unrelated act of idiocy.

Ok but why did this moron attempt to pull that car over in the first place?

counterpoint: if you’re going to do something this mind-bogglingly stupid, might as well take it to 11.

Anyone who tries that ought to go to prison for a long time.

Many years ago a local government official, whose job title eludes me at the moment, used his (apparently legitimate) flashing lights to slow down an erratic driver. Not pull him over, just get in front of him to encourage him to slow.
Well, turned out it was a police officer off-duty with his wife. The over-enthusiastic non-traffic-cop government official lost his job.
He defended himself by saying the truckers were commenting on the CB about a crazy driver, but reaching out for any of them to step up didn’t get him very far. I imagine they were all several states away, assuming he was telling the truth.

Better to call it in and follow til real cops arrive. But even then, the off-duty cop probably would have skated by “professional courtesy.”

The laws aren’t harsh enough for this behavior. Guy will likely get the judicial equivalent to a slap on the wrist - even in AZ.

I’ve called in clearly drunk drivers before. Last time right after I hung up with dis patch they pulled into their driveway.
